It was a great start to a new week!! We had a busy morning jumping right into things!! The kiddos did great coming in and getting right to their morning routine!! We even incorporated a new "Question of the Day!" I love it because it's inspirational and causes them to think deeply! It's a great way to reflect! We also talked about our upcoming schedule and what the week will look like!! Writing biographies, researching an Olympic Athlete or Sport, starting a new math unit, and playing some new games are just a few of the things we discussed! We also learned a new game called Hot Seat!! They had a blast playing it using the newly learned prefixes "non-" "mis-" and "re."
We took our first Pre-Spelling test!! These will be taken at the beginning of the new stories! The final test will be taken at the end of the story...typically on Friday, unless school ends on a different day for the week! They did a fantastic job trying their hardest...they know that if they receive a 100% on the pretest the DO NOT have to take the final test!! YAY! Also, the last 5 spelling words (challenge words) are ALWAYS extra credit!!
This afternoon we made it through our first math lesson, cut out fact triangles, and prepared for tomorrow!! Make sure to practice those math facts...we will be starting our timed multiplication tests SOON!!
Tomorrow we will be diving in deep to writing a biography! In fact, we will be joining forces with the 3rd grade and doing a practice biography with them!! It's going to be fantastic!
Tonight a STAR reading letter went home. This will describe where your child is at with regards to reading! We will try to improve those scores each month! If you have any questions PLEASE let me know!! Practice those math facts, and read those AR books...we already have a ton of kiddos with AR points!! Woohoo!
Have a great evening,
Mrs. Elder
