To fill you in on some things that have gone on the past few weeks...

Things coming up... #1- Spelling Test tomorrow #2- Interest Day tomorrow morning until lunch time #3- IKE parade tomorrow afternoon starting at 2:00 #4- Parent teacher conferences will be Oct. 24/26 #5 Starting a new story next week called Coyote News #6- soooooooooooooo much more... Again, this is just a glimpse! We have so much fun everyday, and I love spending time with these kiddos! They are a great class! Let me know if you have any questions or concerns!!! oh yeah...we have new reading AR goals and our deadline will be Nov. 2. Read those AR books, and take those AR tests so you can qualify for the October AR Party!!!! Have a good night, Mrs. Elder It was a great day at the Aviation Fest! We were able to look at some really cool planes, see the skydiver drift from the plane holding an American Flag, and ask some REALLY GREAT questions!!! The day went along perfectly with our story of the week about the Wright Brothers! It was a beautiful morning, and I'm so glad we got to experience the world of Aviation! I think we may have some future pilots in our class!
This afternoon we were able to conquer a new math lesson and start math MTSS! We are in the beginning stages of reading and math MTSS groups, which are smaller groups taught by various staff and personnel as well as the teachers to enrich reading and math skills! It's a great chance to really dive in those reading and math topics and have more small group time! It's going to be a great addition to our schedule! I will definitely talk more about MTSS at Parent Teacher Conferences, but if you have any questions about it please feel free to email or come by and meet with me! Tomorrow we get to kick off our day with our first FAN TUNNEL of the school year! I'm super excited for our guests, and our guest speaker at the afternoon assembly! It's going to be a great Friday! Remember, chocolate bar money is due Oct. 6!!! Have a great Thursday! Mrs. Elder Hey everyone... Sorry for the delay on posting a blog! Things have been crazy busy, which is a good and bad thing! With our new schedule changes at school, there is really NO time during the day to blog, and afterschool hours and evening hours have been pretty jampacked too...so I apologize! I will try and blog as much as possible! I promise!!!! So...let me give you a little rundown of our week! We wrapped up our story of the week "Grandfather's Journey." That means we took our weekly test, finished the story, finished up some projects, and took our spelling test! We are still in the middle of a few projects that will be ongoing, but overall, the kids are doing great at getting things done and turned in!! In fact, we even had some time to sneak in a celebration of fall activities since Friday was the FIRST DAY of Fall . (even though it didn't feel like it)! Let's hope for some fall like temperatures this week! Coming up, we will be starting a new story called To Fly: A Story of the Wright Brothers! It's an awesome story about Wilbur & Orville Wright and the invention of the airplanes. To go along perfectly with this story, 4th grade gets the opportunity to take a fieldtrip to the Airport for Aviation Day! I can't wait for that...it will be Thursday, Sept. 28! We will go in the morning and be back in time for lunch! It's going to be a great experience for all of the kiddos! We also have our first Character Counts Assembly on Friday! These assemblies are so fun, and recognize a student from each class that has demonstrated great character traits throughout the month! We do not have school on Monday due to a teacher in-service, but I will see everyone back on Tuesday! Enjoy your extra day off! :) Mrs. Elder It was a great week!!! I was super sad about having to miss TWO days this week because I had to attend a teaching conference in Wichita, but I was so proud of how they kiddos behaved and worked for Mrs. Renn! She left me a great sub report, which I LOVE to receive! They got a lot done throughout the week..we have started our story Grandfather's Journey (which we will continue throughout next week), we are in the middle of studying landforms, Japan, and other topics that go with our story! We are also continuing our Tom & Jerry STEAM project in which the students have to create a trap out of limited resources to capture their enemy...to end the never-ending battle!! It has been a blast to watch their thinking and discussion throughout this process! We are also starting some coding and online reading articles!!!! Let's just say it's something new everyday, and these 4th graders just take it in stride!!!!
Next week will be just as fun and busy! Monday I will attend our Building Leadership Team meetings so Mrs. Brill will be in the room during the day!! I can't wait to be back on Tuesday, and continue and wrap up some of the fun projects we are in the middle of!!!! It really does feel like I blink and the week is gone! These kids are so fun and I love being with them each day!!! This Friday we will take our spelling test, we will also take our selection test over Grandfather's Journey this week!!! I will keep you updated on anything going on in 4th grade, and we can't wait to continue our learning and fun days ahead!!! Mrs. Elder HOMEWORK: Study spelling words, read AR! What a great Friday!!! We were busy little bees in the classroom on Friday!!! We conquered morning work, our Spelling test, decorating for the Winn-Dixie party, making egg-salad and peanut butter sandwiches, doing a super fun science experiment with Mr. Tom, catching up on a TON of unfinished work, and wrapping up our story of the week "Because of Winn-Dixie"! Let's just say...it was a productive, fun day!
I was able to snap some pics of our adorable girls dressed for the party as well as our kiddos that were ready for youth football night and ready to support the CRUSADERS!!! Next week we will be diving into a new reading story called "Grandfather's Journey". We will spend two weeks on this story, which will be plenty of time to gain some knew knowledge, practice some new skills, and review some things from 3rd grade! We will also be continuing Module 1 in math! We are really starting to get the hang of our reading and math centers, and things are starting to flow nicely! We did our first flipgrids this week (THEY ARE AMAZING)!!!! I can't wait to do more!!! I sent home the spelling list for our new words, and we will take our PRETEST on MONDAY!! If students get a 100% on #'s 1-20 they WILL NOT have to take the final test! Continue to read AR (points are DUE SEPT. 29) and practice the 3's and 4's multiplication facts! It's going to be a great week next week, and I can't wait to keep on with this journey in 4th grade!!! Mrs. Elder It's going to be a terrific week, and it's already been a great day!!! We got a lot done today including our new theme of the week FRIENDSHIP, our first round of FastBridge Math assessments (we only have one left), reading centers, math centers, story time, music, and so much more!!! Our days are packed, and I don't know how many times a day I hear kids say "man this day is flying" or "wow, that went really fast." It's so true...the time goes so fast! In fact, I feel like we get to about half of the things I want to get to in a day because we are go, go, go!!! That's a good thing...we are learning and having a blast at the same time!
Tonight please study the 3's multiplication facts...we are working hard on those! Also, study those spelling words...our test is FRIDAY!!! Lastly, make sure to keep reading each night!! We are gearing up for our Winn-Dixie party on Friday, and it's going to be a blast!!! Again, thanks for everything you do! I can't wait to see you all tomorrow!! Mrs. Elder Wow...I blinked and the week is over!! This week flew!!! I can't believe we have been in school two weeks already!!! I guess now we get to recover with a 4 day weekend...YAY!!! I feel like we are starting to get in a routine!! Our math and reading centers are starting to click, we've completed two STEAM projects (almost completed the hoop glider), our morning routine is awesome (motivational videos, answer gardens, and a quote of the day), and we've squeezed some story time, recess, and other fun things in there too like shaving cream spelling!!! WE ARE BUSY!!!
The 4th graders are doing AWESOME!!! Next week we will really get into our story Because of Winn Dixie. We just finished the complete story at story time....the kids LOVED it!!! Most of them have even taken the AR test and already gotten most of their points!!!! Woohoo!!! We will continue to study the story of Winn-Dixie next week and we will end the week with a Winn-Dixie Party! It's going to be super fun!!!! We do not have school tomorrow or Monday, so we will be busy, busy next week! The spelling test will be Friday, Sept. 8! We will also take a reading test over Winn-Dixie Thursday! We have almost finished everyone's FastBridge reading test, and we will only have a few FastBridge math tests left for next week! Once we get those completed the data and score sheets will go home! Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. Keep practicing those spelling words, multiplication facts, and reading that AR book!!! Enjoy your long weekend, Mrs. Elder |
